January can be such a gloomy month, we are all tired from all the going out and celebrating over Christmas, fat from the tonnes of chocolate we’ve troughed, and we ‘ve had to go back to work – because BILLS. It seems at the moment there is nothing to look forward too… We want to cheer you up and let you know there is loads to look forward to in 2018…
- The Royal Wedding – The best thing about being from Britain, is most of us LOVE anything royal. And yes, I know, we don’t get a Bank Holiday for this wedding, but it will still be a great day on Saturday 19th May to watch Harry & Meghan getting hitched! (It’s a bit of a double whammy as well – it’s also FA Cup Final Day…) So get your street parties and bunting ready – for a right royal knees-up! DID YOU KNOW? When Prince Charles married Dianna in 1981 – 750 million people watched the wedding across 74 countries!
- The World Cup – Russia – For football fans, there is nothing worse than when May comes around, and for three months we have to sit twiddling our thumbs waiting for the sport to come back to our screens. But every 4 years comes the biggest football competition in the World. On 14th June, 32 teams will compete over a total of 64 games in a bid to win the 18 carat gold trophy – and we can’t wait… Come on England! DID YOU KNOW? Almost half of the World’s Population will tune in for the World Cup Games? That is almost 3.7 BILLION people…
- Women Driving in Saudi Arabia – In what will become one of the biggest milestones for the country, King Salman has issued a decree, that will allow, as of 24th June 2018, women to drive in Saudi. Saudi is the last country on earth that forbade women from getting behind the wheel. This is a massive move forward for Women’s rights in the country!
- The Royal Baby Number 3 – We can’t wait for the pitter patter of the third Royal Baby, in addition to Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2), we wonder what number three will be? We will be finding out in April 2018! DID YOU KNOW – Baby number three will be 6th in line to the throne, and as of 2013, boys no longer take over girls for succession to the throne, whoever is in line, and oldest – will rule!
- The Winter Olympics – South Korea – The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place this year in PyeongChang in South Korea, from 9th February 2018. This will be the countries second Olympic Games, after Seoul in 1988, and their first Winter Olympics. DID YOU KNOW? The first ever Winter Olympics was held in France, in 1924.
- Beyoncé at Coachella – Queen B will be back on stage this year at the festival in California, in April of this year. I mean, I know most of us aren’t lucky enough to jet over to the US for this festival, but she’s back and we’ll be able to watch her performances, so if that isn’t something to look forward too – then what is? We <3 Beyoncé. DID YOU KNOW – Coachella first SOLD OUT in 2004, with Radiohead at the Headliner, and now sells out within hours of tickets going online.
- Incredibles 2 – 14 years after the original Incredibles film was on our screens, the Superhero family are finally back for a second instalment in 2018. We love any Disney Pixar movie, and this sequel is surely going to make the 14 year wait worth while! We still have to wait until 15th June 2018 though… DID YOU KNOW – The first Incredibles movie grossed a massive $650 MILLION dollars at the Box Office World Wide!
- Celebrating Women voting for 100 years – So we suppose it’s not the biggest thing to look forward to this year, but is definitely one of the most important! The most famous story from the Suffragettes movement is possibly from 1913, when Emily Davison stepped out in front of King George’s horse, which trampled her as she protested. Led most notably by Emmeline Pankhurst and the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), the women protested, and the government finally listened – and in 1918, the Representation of People Act became law was passed in February 1918 – giving women the right to vote!
- Justin Timberlake – Superbowl Half Time Show – With teams yet to be decided, we can still get super excited because Mr Justin Timberlake will be entertaining us at the Half Time Show at Superbowl 52! Being held this year Minneapolis – Minnesota, the Superbowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, in 2016 114.4 MILLION people tuned in from around the world to watch the event. There will be coverage for us to watch it here in the UK on BBC, on 4th February @ 23:30hrs. DID YOU KNOW – the average price of a 30 second commercial during the Superbowl is worth around $2.8 million?
- Summer 2018 (In General) – Now I know we don’t get much of a summer, but the thought of a few Bank Holidays, a BBQ or 10 (of course), walks in the countryside, days out with family and friends, UK Festivals, local activities, maybe some weddings, christenings, nights out on the town, a little bit of sunbathing (if we can), bright mornings, baby lambs, new films and music, and anything else summer may bring. We can’t wait.
