With 2018 upon us, we will all flirt with the idea of having a ‘New Year – New Me’ Resolution that we plan on sticking too, but most of the time by the time February is here, we’ve given up for that year and we will start again the next… SO here are our top tips to help you stick to your resolutions for 2018.
- Plan a time frame – Buy a calendar or a diary – plan your actions for the coming weeks and months to ensure you stick to your resolution. Then everything is down on paper, and you can always re-evaluate, and look at how well you are doing!
- Be Realistic – Don’t aim too high, or ignore reality. Make small resolutions that can always develop and evolve. Consider your previous resolutions, what (if anything) led to failure then?
- Treat Yourself – When making your resolution plan, a vital feature should be to treat yourself at important milestones… Stopped smoking for 100 days, treat yourself to that jumper you want!
- Put YOU in charge – These are YOUR resolutions, which you have chosen to improve your life. Of course, support from family/friends is important, and so is their advice and support. But you need to take charge of your life, your resolutions and stick to your plans!
- Talk about it! – Contrary to the above possibly – TALK ABOUT IT! Share your experience with your family and friends, consider joining a group that may be going through the same resolution as you… Having someone to share your journey with you, without judgement – may make it so much easier to stick to your resolution!
- Don’t beat yourself up – Remember, you are human and perfection is unattainable – lets be honest here. If missteps are taken when you are on your journey, THAT IS OK! So you had that 1 cigarette, or you had one chocolate bar… everyone has there ups and downs, it’s how you handle them that matters most!
- Stay Motivated… – Try your very best to stay motivated – make a checklist of how achieving your resolution will benefit you, and your life. This way you’ll always remember why you started in the first place!
Wishing you the best of luck… and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
